Creation’s 40th Anniv of Star Trek Convention
Las Vegas, NV
Celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Star Trek
~ The Luxor Hotel ~
For any fan of StarGate, the Luxor is the hotel to stay at in Las Vegas. There is the giant sphinx at the main entrance, the pyramid shaped hotel building, the Egyptian architecture, the giant statues of Egyptian deities, and much more.
The rooms are also decorated in an Egyptian theme. The triangle shape is a recurring theme. The windows of the rooms in the pyramid are slanted much like the rooms in a ST:TNG crew quarters. We had a nice view from the 12th floor of the back pool called the Oasis. The Luxor also has 2 annex buildings called the East/West towers. The rooms were are not in a pyramid shape but they are similarly decorated. The bathrooms have a Jacuzzi-type tub and a huge glass enclosed separate shower. The Wardrobe is also bigger and much nicer than the one in the pyramid rooms. All which make the tower rooms more expensive. However we opted to stay in the pyramid this year instead of the towers.
The buffet at the Luxor is called the Pharaoh’s Pheast and it is the best in town in our opinion. We had breakfast there every morning and dinner a few times. There was so much food, we never left hungry. In fact we ate enough at breakfast to hold us over to dinner which was a good thing since the Hilton convention area didn’t have a lot of real food for us to eat during the con.
The Luxor also has an attraction level which includes an IMAX theatre, IMAX motion-rides, Games of the Gods game room, King Tut exhibit, shops and new food court. There are also other attractions on the main level such as Ra’s Night club, Nefertiti’s lounge, the Luxor theatre and of course casinos.
